Hi, I'm here to tell you the story of a German Iron Sky fanboy at the Iron Sky red carpet premiere in Tampere on 26.03.2012. Shortly about this fanboy we are speaking about. He waited for this movie for 3 years when he saw the first trailer of it.
In October 2010 he went to Tampere, Finland for a 6 month long internship without even knowing that the idea, the CGI and so much more of Iron Sky originated from there. When he realized it, he was already in love with Tampere, public sauna at Kauppi and his awesome working place at Demola - New Factory.
He started dreaming about seeing movie in the city it came from. But he never even in his wildest dreams thought about being there at the premiere, the gala and even the party after the show.
That's when his Finnish friend Matti told him about the ticket sale to the premier on the 26th. (Video inviting to the premier)
He was first a bit skeptic about the 50€, which was a lot of money for a guy who was just running really low on capital at the end of his stay in Finland. The doubts were washed away pretty fast and the ticket was bought. It was just too perfect to be true. One week after the premiere he had to go back to Germany so he wouldn't be able to see the regular screening. Also, one day before the screening he had his birthday, and it was the best birthday gift from his parents he could possibly get!
Then came the time for waiting....
Not until the 23.03, he got an email with the instructions on how to get the ticket. But there was something frightening. In the email was written that the dress-code was a black tie! Luckily Jarmo Puskala personally promised to rescue the poor fanboy if he wouldn't be able to get in because he didn't even have anything that came near to a black tie dress. At this point an introduction of Jarmo would probably be in order. He's the man who is the community manager of Iron Sky and also the genius who first came up with the idea for the movie.
The 25th March came and the fanboy had a really cool birthday with many of his friends, sauna and BBQ. Additional to the awesome ticket he already had, he got this postcard which turned out to be another perfect gift.
March 26. came. The day he would never forget began! At 5pm he went to the cinema. He was not too early. There were still some small preparations going on for the arrival of the stars of the evening. So there was enough time being interviewed by the local newspaper of Tampere, Aamulehti. He was also easily able to get a really a cool photo with the show girls who handed out Sho-Ka-Kola.
At that point he was really thankful for the reservedness of many of the Finnish people. In other countries there would probably have been a long queue to get such a cool pic :-D (While writing this I just accidentally discovered that one of the girls writes her own blog: Olivia Rouge. Check it out if you want to see the events from her point of view) After the photo he also had his first cool encounter with a German couple who only went for a weekend trip to Finland to go to the premiere of the movie.
So the time went on pretty fast and the heroes of the evening arrived. The pictures and short videos are not the best but they give you a good impression what was going on. (If you are looking for better and more ones have a look at the iron sky flicker stream.)
Soon everybody went to their screening room. (Every screening room in the whole theater was running Iron Sky.) Then there was the moment he had been looking forward for those 3 Years - the movie started. Here are the first 4 minutes to give at least some idea of the awesomeness he experienced.
I'm not going to tell why he thinks the movie is so cool but instead I'll leave it for you to experience it for yourselves.
I'm now jumping to the end of the movie, when he returned from a world where a woman who looked very similar to Sarah Palin was President of the US. For him the movie was so immersive and exciting that he even forgot to drink any of the water he bought before entering the screening room. Finally if you were to ask him how he would describe the movie in one sentence, he would say: "It's a modern science fiction version of the movie The Great Dictator from Charlie Chaplin."
The end of the movie was of course not the end of the awesomeness. It was just the beginning. In part two I will tell you about all the cool things from the premiere gala and the afterparty :-D
